"Great seafood, friendly service and quick too! I believe this is a hot spot for local business people to eat as well. Fried Grouper Sandwich, and Fried Shrimp. Hush Puppies, and cole slaw were excellent."  – Terry P.

"The Shrimp Shack is a bustling little business in Fort Myers. There are (three) locations, but the one on Metro is closer to where I work, so I frequent this one much more than the others. I nearly always order their broiled scallops along with a cup of the greatest New England Clam Chowder that you could ever taste.  – Bob P.

"Delicious Seafood, Reasonable Prices. As a visitor to Cape Coral, I noticed the Shrimp Shack was always packed with people, so we decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed! We ordered our food grilled and it was the best seafood I have ever eaten. The scallops were huge and very tasty, as well as the grouper and shrimp. The hushpuppies were on the sweet side and very good! I would not hesitate to go back."  – Gail (Casco, MI)

"Shrimp Shack is MORE than shrimp!!! The Shrimp Shack may not have the biggest menu, but for a seafood lover, but with what is there you have many good choices. Broiled, fried and blackened, however you make like it, you can pretty much get it. Portions were good, service was prompt and friendly. Check them out!"  – Bill B. (Westford, MA)

"Seafood lovers flock to the Shrimp Shack with their vivacious staff, bustle, and tropical color. There's often a wait for lunch and a brisk take-out business at all addresses. Southern-style deep-frying prevails – whole belly clams, grouper, shrimp, onion rings, hush puppies, and pork loin planks – though you can get some selections broiled or blackened. The Pirate's Pleasure combines broiled grouper, shrimp, and scallops on a bed of crabmeat stuffing. This is your place if you like your seafood simple."

"Having grown up in New England, I have a particular fondness for seafood. Baked, steamed, or fried in particular, Yankee folk love their seafood.

The Shrimp Shack of Ft. Myers is co-owned by three women and touts their menu as "New England-style seafood." While their menu does not have lobster or pasta, you will not miss it among the wealth of seafood they have to choose from. They take pride in their prompt, friendly service and fresh (never frozen!), made-to-order menu.

I've been to Florida a great many times, but considering the accessibility of Gulf, Atlantic, and Caribbean seafood, it is surprisingly challenging to find any remarkable seafood restaurants once you get off the beach communities. The Shrimp Shack takes the best of local seafood and includes national choices as well (Maine clam bellies, a New England specialty, are a customer favorite here). They have an extremely affordable menu, and you get good value for what you've ordered.

When I dined here recently, I had the Pirate’s Pleasure (broiled grouper, shrimp, and scallops served on a bed of crab meat stuffing, with french fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies; $12.99) and could barely finish the plate, I was so stuffed! All their food is wonderfully fresh, and everything just looks so tasty coming out of the kitchen. Of particular note are their hushpuppies — another New England favorite — which are generally made of a flour/corn flour base with spices or other ingredients and fried. The Shrimp Shack's hushpuppies were outstanding; I think I could have simply eaten a plate full of those and walked away happy! Also, their chowders do not contain potatoes, a sure sign of quality!

The Shrimp Shack is constantly busy—we were there at 11am and the place was already 3/4 full!—but they are well-staffed and food is delivered fast and hot. Their dress code is flexible—local businessmen in suits rub elbows with construction workers and tourists alike. They offer a solid value for the money and have great staff. Highly recommended!"

"The Shrimp Shack Restaurant is popular with both visitors and locals alike. This busy seafood restaurant now boasts 3 locations in the area – 2 in Fort Myers and their newest branch opened in 2006 in Cape Coral. Be warned; seafood lovers can often find themselves in line waiting for a table! The Shrimp Shack menu features southern-style cooking of the seafood dishes on offer. Enjoy deep fried grouper, shrimp, whole belly clams, hush puppies, onion rings and pork loin planks. For the more health conscious some dishes can be blackened or broiled if preferred. Branches are located on the corner of Daniels Parkway and Metro Parkway in Fort Myers, Royal Palm Square on Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers and Pine Island Road, Cape Coral. The restaurant offers take out and accepts major credit cards. Open 7 days a week. Call ahead for take out orders and to check operating hours."

"A combination of good, fresh seafood plus a smooth-running operation that results in an exemplary dining experience should assure success for Shrimp Shack in its second location. The menu allows quite a bit of improvising — and lots of takeout options — which is a real bonus for diners."

Let's Do Dinner... Shrimp Shack
When the owners of Shrimp Shack opened their first restaurant in 1998, their mission was simple: to simply be the best seafood restaurant around. While that may sound like a tall order - and it is - owners Kathy Harshman, Charlotte Fennell and Suzanne Grady have succeeded across the board, offering superior food, service and prices at two convenient locations in Fort Myers.

Shrimp Shack has come a long way in a short time. Established in Cape Coral in December, 1998, the original restaurant was little more than a glorified test kitchen with 25 seats, catering mainly to carryout customers. Within months, Shrimp Shack and its winning formula had taken off, literally and figuratively. In 1999, the restaurant relocated to Fort Myers and closed its first Cape location.

Since then, fast-moving customer lines have formed almost daily, as Shrimp Shack has become an eating destination for seafood aficionados. All of the locations are enjoying similar popularity, thanks to a loyal customer base and Shrimp Shack’s fresh, New England-style offerings.

“Our concept is perfect service and the best food at a fair price,” said Harshman, noting that experienced management is one of the keys to the restaurant’s success. Collectively, the three owners boast more than 60 years in the restaurant industry, and know what it takes to create and maintain a successful dining establishment.

The menu, for example, is deliberately limited to seafood basics to ensure freshness at all times. Although there is no lobster or pasta on the menu, no one is complaining, thanks to a mouthwatering menu filled with fresh shrimp, scallops, grouper, catfish and clams, including clam bellies. Few area restaurants offer this plump, juicy treat, which Shrimp Shack flies in from the world-renowned clam-belly capital of Ipswich, Maine, and serves fried.

Many items also are available broiled, blackened or steamed. Nothing is frozen and everything is made to order. This homemade approach extends to Shrimp Shack’s incomparable seafood chowder and soups, as well as its tartar sauce, secret seasonings, and best-selling hushpuppies. Like the fried shrimp, each made-from-scratch hushpuppy is lovingly hand-battered and breaded before it is cooked.

Shrimp Shack’s menu really does have something for every appetite, starting with the appetizers listed under Anchors Away! They range from Jalapeno Poppers and hot-and-spicy Buffalo Shrimp to cheese sticks, onion rings and crab cakes.

There are also a number of different salads with chicken or seafood and entrees, starting at $8.99. Besides the seafood entrees listed under Royal Ocean Treasures, the menu features Dockside Delights, which include several chicken and pork dishes, along with a ribeye steak. All are accompanied by slaw and hushpuppies, as well as a choice of fries or green beans.

Diners also have the option of creating custom dishes by combining two or three different items from either Dockside Delights or Royal Ocean Treasures. In addition, hearty appetites may want to consider the Pirate’s Pleasure (broiled grouper, shrimp and scallops served on a bed of crab meat) or the Fisherman’s Feast (a huge basket of fried grouper, shrimp, scallops and clam strips).

Although the main menu is available day or night, a lunch menu also is offered. It includes a wide array of sandwiches, soups and salads, as well as Shacks Baskets. Baskets feature fried, broiled and blackened seafood, chicken or pork, and are served with fries, slaw and hushpuppies. Lunch prices generally range from $5.25 - $7.25.

For takeout, there are a variety of side orders offered by the pint or quart, and one-pound family boxes of seafood, chicken or pork that serve 2-3 people each. Party platters of shrimp also are available for pickup at either restaurant.

All of the Shrimp Shack locations feature the same menu, seating capacity and outstanding service. To maintain it, Shrimp Shack always has an abundance of servers on duty, as well as a working manager in the kitchen and dining room.
